How to cook Quinoa/ Quinoa/ Super food Quinoa

How to cook Quinoa/
Quinoa/
Super food Quinoa

Hi Friends,
As said in my previous post that after a continuous sweet dose of recipes i will post a non sweet recipe and i m here with super food QUINOA. Few months back i was not aware about this super grain. but my DH who is a fitness freak asked me to get that for him and i very eagerly went to a grocery shop asking for quinoa and they happily handed me over the packet which was hardly 200-300gm and the amount was Rs. 350/- i was not shocked but bit amazed that why this tiny thing costs so much.

Uncooked Quinoa

          Cooked Quinoa
Then my search began and i found that these tiny grains are one of the super food. You can read about it here. I searched a lot and found that making it is more easy then making boiled rice. So today morning i tried and it took me 10 minutes to get fully cooked and fluffy quinoa. You can make pulao, salad and many other things with it. best part is you can have it as it is. means just boil it with water salt and some chilly powder/peprika/chilly flakes and that it. what can be more quick on a busy morning and thats more great to know that you are having a super quick super food in a bowl. So friends i will be here with more recipes till then learn how to cook it and try it at home.

Ingredients:-
Quinoa - 1/2 cup
Water- 1 cup
Salt- 1/4 or as per your taste

Method:-
Take the ingredients

add water and salt in a pan

start heating it

when its warm add your super food

some will float and some will sit in the bottom

stir them to mix properly

Now put the flame on high and give it a boil

Now after a boil
sim the gas and cover it and cook for 2 minutes

uncover and again cover and cook for 2 minutes

Now you can see that tiny grains starts swelling up

Now uncover and cook &keep stirring in between

Its almost cooked

Now its up to you that you can cook it for more one minutes and dry up all the water or keep it more moist and juicy

all water dried up
now fluff it with a fork, like we do for rice
(you can make it more drier by heating for few more seconds but i tasted and felt it was perfectly fine to have it like this)

see how fluffy it is

YOU CAN HAVE IT AS IT IS

It was light Nutty and Juicy
I LIKE THE TASTE VERY MUCH
Notes:-
  1. Ratio for cooking -take one part quinoa and 2 part water is best to get fully cooked and fluffed.
  2. In whole process you need to stir it and keep an eye as it may stick to the bottom at get burned.
  3. If you want to enjoy it as it is then add few pinches paprika/red chilly powder/chilly flakes and sprinkle some oregano when cooked and enjoy as it is.

Healthy Sandwich/
Healthy Breakfast
Hi Friends,
One more healthy recipe. Everybody knows that sprouts are healthy. So i thought to add this in sandwich. It came out so crispy and tasty. I have used white bread as i was only having it on my shelf. Use multigrain/brown bread to make it super healthy.

You can have this sandwich in breakfast or as snacks in the evening. Its also a very easy and quick recipe. I made it for my kids breakfast. It was very easy to prepare everything and putting sandwich in bread and helping kids to get ready for school. I feel its a breeze to make them in the breakfast in the morning rush hours. My kids liked them a lot. Hope you will like them too.

Ingredients:-

Bread (white/brown/multigrain)- 6 slices
Sprouts-1 tbsp
boiled potato- 2 medium
Onion- chopped 1 tbsp
ghee/butter- 1 tbsp
salt- as per your taste
chilly powder- 1/2 optional
tomato sauce- 2 tsp

Method:-
Take all your ingredients

Take onion+potato+sprouts in a bowl and mix them together

Add salt+chilly powder and mix well

and finally add tomato sauce and mix

Take a slice of bread

apply ghee/butter on it

take a generous amount of sprouts mix and spread evenly

cover with another bread and apply ghee/butter

Brush your sandwich maker with some butter/ghee/oil

place your sandwiches

close it

Done within a minute

CRISPY AND TASTY SANDWICHES ARE READY TO SERVE

Notes:-

  1. Use multigrain/brown bread for more healthier version.
  2. You can skip onion if you dont like it. You can add any of your favorite veggie like carrot/cabbage etc to make it more healthy.
  3. You can skip tomato sauce mixing in the mix. But it will provide a good moisture and flavor to the sandwich.
Hope you will like it

Beetroot Mayonnaise Sandwich/ Beetroot Sandwich/ Healthy Sandwich/ Healthy Breakfast/ Healthy Snacks/ Kids Special

Beetroot Mayonnaise Sandwich/
Beetroot Sandwich/
Healthy Sandwich/
Healthy Breakfast/
Healthy Snacks/
Kids Special
Hi Friends,
Sometimes you are so lazy or unwell that you want something quick and easy. But when it comes to kids lunch box you are supposed to be more cautious to choose menu which should be quick and healthy. Last night i was having some beets which i wanted to finish off soon. Then again by co incidence i bought a jar of different flavors of mayonnaise. Third co incidence was that by daughter asked to pack sandwich in the lunch box and all three co incidences turned out in a very healthy sandwich. Only drawback was that when i sent my brother for bread then only last packet of white bread was available. So went ahead with that. So if you want to more healthy then use brown or multigrain bread.
It was so quick, easy and at the same time very healthy. I packed it for myself also. It was too yummy. You can not believe that it needs very few ingredients, takes hardly 10 minutes to make this sandwiches. You can make them for parties too. Prepare everything at night and assemble and serve at the time. I would i ask you to try these sandwiches as it is a great way to feed your kids beets which kids normally avoids because of its taste. So friends now to the recipe.

Ingredients:-

Bread Slices- 6 (brown/multigrain/white)
Beetroot-1 medium
Onion- 1 medium (optional but recommended)
Butter- as required (i skipped it)
Mayonnaise- 3 tbsp

Method:-
Take all your ingredients

Chop onions in small pieces

grate beets

mix both of them in a bowl

now add mayonnaise

mix them well

take a bread slice
here you can apply butter but i avoided (see notes)

apply generous amount of beet mayonnaise mix

cover with another slice

cut

Serve

see vibrant colour of beets
Notes:-

  1. Use brown bread or multi grain bread for more healthier version. The time i went to grab the bread this was the only option so i grabbed this one.
  2. I will suggests you to avoid butter if you are packing sandwiches for lunch box specially for kids as after lunch kids drink water and greasy things like butter can cause cough. If you don't agree with me then go ahead as per your wish.
  3. You avoid onion completely. I added it for some crunch and it worth trying this combination.
  4. You can chop beets too but i thought that kids might not like beets in chunk so grated them. You can grate onion also.
  5. You can use any of your favorite flavored mayonnaise also.
Hope you will like it
